The seed for HughesFerguson, LLP was planted nearly a decade ago, when Jeff and Jack met at an annual tax law update course, only to soon realize personalties and interest were the same.
Jeff started his career in early 2006 at a local CPA firm in San Diego, where he was exposed to a wide variety of tax situations, entity types, and industries. It wasn't until 2008, ironically at the start of the U.S. economic downturn, that he started to hone his skills in partnerships and real estate taxation. After wanting to grow his knowledge and expand his real estate exposure, Jeff decided to join a national CPA firm. However, that firm didn't have a large real estate practice at that time, and so Jeff was immersed in corporate returns allowing him to expand his expertise in that area. Over time, Jeff became a Tax Manager and was instrumental with growing the partnership and real estate practice of RSM US, LLP into a specialized group within the San Diego office.
Jack's career began on the other side of the table working as a Senior Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service in their Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division, auditing arbitrage transaction nationwide. After gaining a vast and valuable knowledge from the taxing authorities perspective, Jack decided to start his own firm in Lake Elsinore. The knowledge he acquired while working for the IRS translated into an expertise in audit representation for his client with not only the IRS, but all types of taxing authorities.
